Genesis 1 — Creation (Cosmic Scale)
God creates the universe in six days: light, sky, land, plants, sun/moon/stars, creatures, and finally humanity (male and female). God declares creation “very good.”
Genesis 2 — Creation (Human Focus)
Zooms in on humanity: God forms Adam, creates Eden, assigns stewardship, and fashions Eve from Adam’s side. Marriage is established.
Genesis 3 — The Fall
Serpent tempts Eve. Adam and Eve eat from the forbidden tree, gain knowledge, and become aware of shame. Judgment falls; they are exiled from Eden.
Genesis 4 — Cain and Abel
Cain kills Abel out of jealousy. Cain is exiled; his descendants form early cities and crafts. Adam and Eve have Seth.
Genesis 5 — Genealogy Adam to Noah
Long lifespans of patriarchs listed. Enoch “walks with God” and is taken.
Genesis 6 — Corruption and the Ark
Humanity becomes violent and corrupt. “Sons of God” take “daughters of men.” God chooses Noah and commands the building of the Ark.
Genesis 7 — The Flood Begins
The floodwaters come; rain falls 40 days. All land life outside the Ark perishes.
Genesis 8 — Flood Ends; Covenant Begins
Waters recede. Noah releases birds to test dryness. God promises never to destroy earth by flood again.
Genesis 9 — Noahic Covenant
Rainbow established as a sign. Rules on lifeblood and justice. Noah’s sons’ descendants set the stage for future nations. Canaan is cursed.
Genesis 10 — Table of Nations
A breakdown of nations descending from Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Nimrod’s empire appears.
Genesis 11 — Tower of Babel
Humanity unites to build a tower. God confuses language and scatters them. Genealogy from Shem to Abram.
PATRIARCHAL ERA
Genesis 12 — Call of Abram
God calls Abram to leave his homeland and promises land, descendants, and worldwide blessing.
Genesis 13 — Abram and Lot Separate
To avoid conflict, Abram lets Lot choose land; Lot chooses the fertile Jordan plain.
Genesis 14 — Rescue of Lot
Lot is captured in a regional war; Abram rescues him. Melchizedek blesses Abram.
Genesis 15 — Covenant Ceremony
God confirms Abram will have descendants as numerous as stars. A covenant ritual is performed.
Genesis 16 — Hagar and Ishmael
Sarai gives Hagar to Abram. Hagar bears Ishmael. Tension grows in the household.
Genesis 17 — Covenant of Circumcision
Abram becomes Abraham; Sarai becomes Sarah. God promises a son through Sarah. Circumcision instituted.
Genesis 18 — Visitors & Promise
Three visitors (angels; one often interpreted as divine) promise Isaac’s birth. God reveals plan to judge Sodom.
Genesis 19 — Destruction of Sodom
Angels rescue Lot. Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed. Lot’s daughters bear Moab and Ammon.
Genesis 20 — Abraham & Abimelech
Abraham repeats the “she is my sister” pattern with Sarah; God protects her.
Genesis 21 — Birth of Isaac
Isaac is born. Hagar and Ishmael are sent away but preserved by God. Covenant with Abimelech.
Genesis 22 — The Binding of Isaac
Abraham is tested to offer Isaac; God stops him and reaffirms covenant.
Genesis 23 — Death of Sarah
Sarah dies; Abraham buys the Cave of Machpelah for burial.
Genesis 24 — Rebekah Chosen for Isaac
Abraham’s servant finds Rebekah. Isaac marries her.

Genesis 26 — Isaac in Gerar
Isaac repeats the “she is my sister” episode with Rebekah. Prosperity leads to conflict with locals.
Genesis 27 — Jacob Takes the Blessing
Jacob deceives Isaac to receive Esau’s blessing. Esau vows revenge.
Genesis 28 — Jacob’s Dream
Jacob flees. God appears in a dream (ladder to heaven) and renews the covenant.
Genesis 29 — Jacob Marries Leah & Rachel
Laban tricks Jacob into marrying Leah first. Jacob marries Rachel as well.
Genesis 30 — Birth of Jacob’s Children
Leah and Rachel compete for children using themselves and maidservants. Jacob grows wealthy.
Genesis 31 — Jacob Leaves Laban
Jacob flees Laban. God protects him. They form a peace covenant.
Genesis 32 — Jacob Wrestles with God
Jacob fears Esau. A mysterious wrestler (angel/God) renames him Israel.
Genesis 33 — Jacob & Esau Reconcile
Esau embraces Jacob peacefully. Jacob settles in Shechem.
Genesis 34 — Dinah and Shechem
Dinah is violated. Jacob’s sons Simeon and Levi massacre the city in retaliation.
Genesis 35 — Renewal and Rachel’s Death
Jacob returns to Bethel. God reaffirms his name Israel. Rachel dies giving birth to Benjamin.

Genealogy of Esau and the Edomite chiefs.
JOSEPH ARC
Genesis 37 — Joseph Sold to Egypt
Joseph’s dreams anger his brothers. They sell him to slavers. Joseph ends up in Potiphar’s house.
Genesis 38 — Judah and Tamar
Judah’s sons die due to wickedness. Tamar disguises herself and ensures her lineage.
Genesis 39 — Joseph in Potiphar’s House
Joseph prospers; Potiphar’s wife lies about him. Joseph is imprisoned.
Genesis 40 — Dreams in Prison
Joseph interprets the cupbearer’s and baker’s dreams; events unfold exactly as predicted.
Genesis 41 — Pharaoh’s Dreams
Joseph interprets dreams of famine. Elevated to second-in-command. Stores grain for seven good years.
Genesis 42 — Brothers’ First Visit
