Just saw the heartbreaking news about the sudden loss of our friend Kevin Key, someone many of us knew from the early days of Textamerica. For those who were there, Textamerica was basically what Instagram is now, except it felt more personal, more real, and, honestly, better. Nothing has ever really compared to TA. The friendships we made there, the late-night comments, the jokes, the conference calls, the way we followed each other’s lives from afar — those bonds have lasted all these years.Kevin was one of those people. He was talented, funny, creative, and a true jack of all trades. He was an amazing photographer, especially when it came to the night sky. His photos were stunning. But one of the things I’ll always remember most was his love for Beavis and Butt-Head. We’d leave comments back and forth using those two dorks like memes before memes were what they are now. It was dumb, funny, and exactly the kind of thing that made those days so memorable.I never had the chance to meet Kevin in person, unfortunately, but for years we shared laughs and comical banter online. That was the magic of Textamerica. You could build real friendships with people you had never stood in the same room with. You celebrated their accomplishments, checked in during hard times, and sometimes shed a tear for someone you only knew through words, photos, and years of shared memories.Kevin’s loss is sudden and shocking, just like when we lost Disco, whose real name was Abdulkader. It brings back so many memories of those old TA days — staying up late commenting, talking with everyone just because we were bored, and feeling like we were part of something that really mattered.I’ve always said I’m a good listener, and I mean it. Whether you are a close personal friend or someone I’ve only known online, I’m always here to talk. Text, message, vent, whatever you need. I’ve got your back.Kevin was one of those unforgettable people from that long, crazy chapter of my early life. I won’t forget him. I think I’ll watch some good old Beavis and Butt-Head in your honor, Kev.May your soul rest in peace. Thank you for being part of those memories, those friendships, and those years that meant so much to so many of us.My condolences to Kevin’s family, his close friends, and everyone who loved him. We will miss him.
