Capcom has been on a major hot streak in recent years, and Hideki Kamiya believes the reason goes beyond simply having talented developers.
According to Kamiya, one of Capcom’s biggest strengths is its willingness to keep investing in new ideas rather than relying only on safe sequels and established franchises.
When a fan asked why Capcom has been performing so well, Kamiya responded:
“Capcom has a lot of talented people. But I think management has always had a proactive attitude toward creating new series, and that has led to good results.”
Kamiya pointed to Pragmata as an example of Capcom continuing to support fresh concepts. While the company is best known for massive franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Devil May Cry, Kamiya believes its willingness to create new IP is a major part of what keeps the company strong.
That approach is especially important in an industry where many publishers often lean heavily on sequels, remakes, and familiar brands. Capcom still understands the value of its biggest series, but it also seems willing to take risks on original projects.
Kamiya’s comments also carry extra weight now that he is once again working with Capcom on Ōkami 2. The original Ōkami became a beloved classic, and its long-awaited sequel shows that Capcom is still willing to revisit creative, artistic projects that stand apart from the usual blockbuster formula.
For Kamiya, Capcom’s success comes from balance. The company continues to support its biggest franchises while also leaving room for new series and creative ideas.
That balance may be one of the biggest reasons Capcom remains one of the strongest publishers in gaming today.
